Friends of the Library Volunteer Opportunities

Bookstore Volunteers
• Work shifts in the bookstore, refresh the shelves
• Pack and ship items for sale; Sell valuable items on-line
• Sort and price donations
• Train volunteers; Chair committee
Leadership Positions
• Run for office
• Chair a Friends Committee
• Serve on nominating committee
Membership and Outreach
• Work with Corresponding Secretary
• Work on membership drive and assist with public relations
• Assist with graphics, social media, press releases
• Update membership lists, email addresses, mailing addresses, phone numbers, establish database
Hospitality Committee
• Set up refreshments, welcome guests, assist library with programs
• Host events
Archivist
• Gather minutes, by-laws, official documents, publicity pieces into FOL archives
Library Legislation & Government Outreach
• Track library legislation, organize letter writing campaigns, keep friends apprised of developments
• Attend West Hollywood City Council, announce Friends events, keep West Hollywood Community informed of action required on any pending library legislation, budget information, etc.
Program Committee
• Work with City and Library staff to identify programs for the new West Hollywood Library
• Serve on joint programming committee
• Assist in securing funding for events
• Seek funds from FOL to fund events
• Publicity for events
• Work with hospitality committee as needed for events, set up, docent, etc.
Tour Guides
• Work as tour guide during library dedication, special events, as needed
• Requires training and familiarity with FAQ document
• May require Life Scan check (required for Library volunteers)
Fundraising
• Actively seek funding for the West Hollywood Library, collections, programs, etc.
• Work with the West Hollywood Library fund (Friends liaison to fund)
West Hollywood Book Fair
• Serve as Friends’ liaison to West Hollywood Book Fair
